CASUAL RINK ATTENDANT

The Opportunity:

The Public Works department is currently seeking to hire casual Rink Attendants. As a Rink Attendant, you will primarily be responsible for maintain the ice surface, operation and care of the ice resurfacing equipment and monitoring operation of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Performs a variety of cleaning, general maintenance and repair tasks throughout the facility. Provides excellent customer service to facility clients; monitors the behaviour of patrons and spectators.


Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform basic maintenance for entire facility including all areas used by public and secure areas. This includes painting, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance, etc.
  • Operate equipment including, but not limited to, ice making, janitorial, and building maintenance
  • Perform janitorial duties including sweeping, mopping, polishing and scrubbing facilities and equipment
  • Enforce all rules and regulations regarding public health and safety;
  • Ensure facilities are locked and secured when not in use.
  • Inspect and repair boards
  • Maintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arena
  • Respond to emergencies including evacuation alarms, medical emergencies and other safety issues
  • Create positive experiences for user groups including preparing the ice surface for rentals in a timely fashion, ensuring dressing rooms are assigned accordingly, answering inquiries about the facility, handling complaints and conflict resolution.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • At minimum applicants need to have Grade 10 education.
  • WHMIS and Emergency First Aid would be an asset.
  • 0 to 6 months of previous experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group to accomplish tasks and assignments.
  • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License


Note: This is a physically demanding position. You may be required to lift, carry and manage equipment and supplies up to 50lbs.

Hours of Work:

Rink Attendants work for a variety of shifts from mid-October 2020 to mid-March 2021, seven days a week, which could include:
Days: approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Afternoons: approximately 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

CASUAL RINK ASSISTANT

The Opportunity:

The Public Works department is currently seeking to hire two casual Rink Assistants. As a Rink Assistant, you will primarily be responsible for providing a full range of cleaning services to ensure the patrons and staff of the Karol Maschmeyer Arena have a clean environment. You will report to the Rink Attendant and work as part of a team to ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean on specific shifts and according to an assigned cleaning schedule.


Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Scrubbing, cleaning and sanitizing washrooms, dressing rooms, common areas and offices
  • Maintaining and replenishing supplies at various locations within the facility
  • Collection/removal of trash and recycle materials
  • Ongoing sweeping, mopping, buffing/waxing of floors, as well as cleaning bleacher areas
  • Using and maintaining all custodial cleaning equipment
  • Complying with OH&S regulations that apply to your work (reading and understanding MSDS sheets, safe work practices with chemicals, proper lifting techniques)
  • Reading/monitoring the facility’s daily schedule for booked functions and events
  • Providing excellent customer service to patrons and employees
  • Assisting with the removing and shoveling of snow in all exits of the building as required.

Qualifications:

  • At minimum applicants need to have Grade 10 education.
  • Previous janitorial experience would be an asset.
  • The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at multi-tasking.
  • To be successful, candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • WHMIS and Emergency First Aid would be an asset.


Note: This is a physically demanding position requiring Rink Assistants to be on their feet and walking through the facility for long periods of time. You may be required to lift up to a maximum of 30lbs at a time and move table and chair carts up to 50lbs in weight.
